ISO Environmental Award For Benson Signs

ISO14001

Following an assessment by an independent organisation Benson Signs has been successful in achieving ISO 14001 Certification.

This internationally recognised prestigious award for environmental awareness and impact reduction is acknowledged to help achieve global environmental sustainability.

SHEQ Co-ordinator Graham Barker said “We have always been committed to environmental awareness and improvement and now, with the award of ISO 14001, our high values have been assessed against one of the toughest standards there is”.

In today’s environmentally conscious society increased pressure is placed on organisations and industry to not just pay lip service but to show initiative in demonstrating their green aspirations in regard to environmental issues.

David Twells, who undertook the assessment for CQS Certified Quality Systems, paid particular tribute to the EMS, with an "Unqualified Pass of an exceptional system" in providing environmental awareness and showing the committment to the reduction of their environmental impacts.

ISO 14001 - 80% and rising

At Benson Signs we take our impacts on the environment seriously, that’s why we are now working towards attaining ISO 14001 accreditation.

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that sets out how you can go about putting in place an effective Environmental Management System (EMS).

We believe that our continuous commitment to reducing our impact on the environment has, since our first solar PV array installation in 2006, resulted in Benson Signs becoming the most sustainable sign manufacturer in the UK.

We realise, however, that for all our hard work and commitment to be properly recognised we need to introduce a formal, externally verified system that will enable an independent and rigorous assessment of not just what we have achieved but, more importantly, what we will achieve. Therefore, Benson Signs aim to attain ISO 14001 accreditation by the end of 2011.

Benson Signs promote use of recycled aluminium

RECYCLED_ALUMINIUMHere at Benson Signs we undoubtedly use greater quantities of aluminium sheet in the manufacture of our signs than any other raw material.

We are conscious of the huge amount of energy, virgin materials and fossil fuels it takes to manufacture our 1050 grade aluminium sheet. Therefore, as an environmentally aware company, we decided to source a more sustainable alternative and Richard Austin Alloys Ltd introduced us to such a product.

The alternative is manufactured using approximately 50 percent recycled aluminium, resulting in a reduction in the amount of raw energy required to produce it.

Before using the product in earnest we needed to ensure that there would be no noticeable difference in machining, fabricating or finishing of the aluminium, not to mention its quality and longevity. We also had to consider the cost in comparison to the usually used product.

We are pleased to announce that now, where possible, we are using the new greener aluminium product.

Just another small step in our continued commitment to sourcing greener raw materials for the manufacture of signs and for the benefit of the environment.
